Debug Mode

This is very much the last step. If you have not yet try the alternative fixes listed on the common issues page.

Step 1

This next step will help you communicate to us what issue you're having and may help you fix it yourself.

First we need to close MicLight.exe

Press Ctrl Alt Delete

Click "Task Manger"

Click "Name"

Scroll down till you reach MicLight.exe

Right Click on miclight.exe

and select end task.

If you cannot find MicLight.exe (and you haven't already closed it deliberately).

Then you either have not been running the code after installing (try restarting your pc)

or you didn't install it. Go to install help and follow the instructions listed.

Now click "MicLight (Debug Mode) to open this window.

Step 2

Once you've closed MicLight.exe

Search MicLight (debug mode) in programs search.

If you cannot find it then again go through installation instructions being sure to click debug mode optional extra.

Connect your Mic Light to the PC. If it doesn't flash briefly try: Won't Flash

This will slowly count through up to 3 attempts on your potential com ports to find the Mic Light. If it can't find it, it waits for 30 seconds.

If you don't hit the timeout scroll down to Step 3  if you hit 30 seconds like this close the program and try again (or wait 30 seconds). Then if it repeats like this again try a different connected USB port, again checking for the flash.

If your message looks like this one below (potentially with a different COM number).

Either you didn't manage to close phrasecheck.exe or your connection isn't quite right. Go back to the top and repeat the Ctrl Alt Delete step and make sure phrasecheck.exe is not running in background processes.

If you're sure it isn't unplug and re-plug the Mic Light following the won't flash instructions.

Then try this step again. If still nothing reach out to help@brighterdevices.co.uk

If the program is saying the following text below or similar.

"Received data (length 1):

[90]

As string: Z

Attempt 1 to identify Mic Light...

Performing DTR reset..."

The program is able to connect but isn't receiving the required data back. This is likely due to a connection issue. First close the debug window.

Then unplug the cable and inspect for kinks or damage. Unplug both the Mic Light and the cable from USB then reinsert both carefully. Following the "Won't Flash" instructions to plug them in.

Restart the debug window

If this error persists try one or two times to restart debug mode and unplug and re-plug the Mic Light.

If you cannot get this message to go away reach out to help@brighterdevices.co.uk

Step 3

Your Debug program connected to the Mic Light and looks similar to the box below.

This is good. Your Mic Light is connected and the program is running. The only problem now is that the Mic Light isn't turning on (go to Step 4 if this is the case) when your Microphone is engaged or your Mic Light is always on. â€‹

If your Mic Light is always on we strongly recommend checking your open programs it could be you have audio settings open in the background somewhere. Is there a microphone icon present in the bottom of your screen? This shows some program is accessing your microphone hover over it without clicking to see which program it is. If there is no icon close down all programs until only the debug window is open. If it's still on consider scanning with antivirus. Then reach out to help@brighterdevices.co.uk

Step 4

So the Mic Light isn't lighting up. First lets see if your Microphone is registered by the program. See if your program is putting out text similar to the box below. Specifically are you reaching Check 2 and then failure? This check is trying to find your microphone. If it can't this check fails and the Mic Light defaults to off. If this is the case ensure your microphone is connected. Then if still experiencing this issue follow the advanced troubleshooting steps to ensure your system is recording the device as a microphone.

Can't find a Microphone:

Found a Microphone:

Step 5

If you reach this stage the Microphone and Mic Light are connected to the program. However, if you're still here the Mic Light is still not on. If you have a different issue and you've read through all the steps above try our "Common Issue" page if not there reach out to us at help@brighterdevices.co.uk

If your program looks like the window below with a listed Microphone and a "Handling command x setting LED to High" yet still the Mic Light is not on try plugging into a different USB Slot particularly a back PC port or a different side on a laptop. Still nothing reach out to us for a diagnosis and repair.

If there is a listed microphone but both session states are inactive. Check your program is on that uses your microphone. And make sure that you've selected the same microphone that's been checked by the Mic Light as the one being used by that program. Open sound settings to set your default microphone as the one that Mic Light is detecting.
